Mama K’s Burritos was established by a local food lover, Krista in 2013. Born in Arizona, America, Krista loved cooking and enjoying authentic Mexican food. Upon moving to the UK, Krista soon discovered that it was hard to find good Mexican cuisine of the quality that she was used to in America. This inspired her to create her own business supplying authentic burritos and Mexican dishes using fresh ingredients and her own delicious recipes to really give it that homemade touch. This focus soon became the cornerstone of her business; authentic, homemade food infused with the tradition of Krista’s American roots is encapsulated in the name Mama K.

Krista initially began by attending events and festivals with her own stall which proved to be very popular, indicating there was a keen Mexican-loving market for her business concept. Krista decided to take the plunge and set up the business full time so that she could build a regular client base and pursue her passion and ambition of providing authentic, traditional Mexican food - Mama K’s Burritos was born. To establish and grow her business Krista realised she needed a strong brand and some assistance with her marketing. She approached us following a recommendation from one of our existing clients. We quickly established that the business needed a full marketing package to raise awareness in the marketplace and establish Mama K’s as the ‘go-to’ choice for high quality, fresh Mexican take away.

As with any start up business funding was limited and we therefore recommended our marketing package that is specifically designed for start-ups. It provides all the essential marketing tools required to get a business up and running and the cost is spread over a monthly payment plan making it extremely affordable for businesses looking to get off the ground.

We undertook a customer profiling exercise to understand Mama K’s target audience, then set to work on creating the brand. Our team worked hard to develop the brand identity so that it portrays the Mexican influence with vibrant colours combined with an authentic and rustic feel. This very much reinforces the fundamental unique selling points of Mama K’s Burritos. Once the brand was created we went on to establish specifically agreed online and offline marketing materials including an e-commerce website, menus, leaflets, stickers, loyalty cards, banners and social media profile images.

The most important aspect for Mama K’s Burritos is the website. As a fully functioning ordering site it is the shop front to the whole business and all sales go through the online ordering system. We carefully designed and built the website with consideration for initial SEO, ordering capabilities and a CMS back office functionality so that customer orders could be managed, along with updates to prices and products. We also carried out a photo shoot to ensure genuine imagery of the food was utilised on the website ensuring customers were provided with an insight into the quality that is Mama K’s. In preparation for the launch, we also set up social media pages ready for Mama K’s to build a relationship with the Mexican food lovers of Chester. Initially Mama K’s was only open during the weekdays at lunchtime, however, after we identified the hub of students and young professionals in Chester, we recommended that the opening hours should be extended to weekends and evenings, to take advantage of peak periods of activity and demand. This proved extremely successful.

As the authentic Mexican food became very much in demand in Chester, the company has now expanded to the point where there is a team of people working at Mama K’s Burritos. They have extended their reach significantly by appearing on popular websites including Just Eat and Deliveroo.

For a local food delivery company, Mama K’s is doing exceedingly well, with over 12,000 customers having visited the website in the first nine months, a five star/excellent rating on Trip Advisor and Just Eat plus a 94% review rating on Deliveroo.

When Mama K’s Burritos chose us as a marketing partner, we were excited to set to work on a new company identity that reflects the brand’s unique selling points and define Mama K’s as the preferred provider of Mexican cuisine for Chester. Mama K’s logo, marketing materials and website all display the brand’s personality which exudes homemade Mexican authentic food which will resonate with food lovers.
